Chloe Paquet defeated Justina Mikulskyte 6-3, 6-4 in Sao Paulo, converting five break points to her opponent's three. The difference was resistance on serve: Paquet saved four of seven break points, while Mikulskyte saved none of the five she faced.
Mikulskyte struck first, breaking in the opening game of the match at 1-0, but Paquet broke back at 2-2 and then again at 3-5 to close out the set. The second set opened with three straight breaks - Paquet at 0-1, Mikulskyte at 1-1, Paquet at 1-2 - before the Frenchwoman broke once more at 2-5; Mikulskyte pulled one back at 3-5 but could not hold on.
Paquet won 62 points to 48 and held six of her nine service games, against three of eight for Mikulskyte. She also won 63% of her first-serve points (20/32), despite six double faults, four of them in the opening set.
