Barbora Palicova beat Gina Feistel 7-5, 6-1 at the WTA 125k in Ljubljana, converting five break points to her opponent's two. Her returning did the damage: Palicova won 34 receiver points to Feistel's 26 and took 69% of her second-serve return points across the match.
Palicova broke immediately for 1-0 and again for 3-0 in the opening set, only for Feistel to hit back at 4-2 and level things with a break at 5-5. The turning point came straight after, as Palicova broke again for 6-5 and served out the set, then opened the second with another break for 1-0 and added two more, at 4-1 and 6-1.
The contrast on second serve told the story: Palicova won 16 of 31 second-serve points (52%) while Feistel managed just 7 of 23 (30%), and only 1 of 7 in the second set. Palicova did that despite landing only 52% of first serves and hitting four double faults.
