Elena Rybakina came from a set down to beat Naomi Osaka 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 in Toronto. After losing the opener, Rybakina levelled in a tiebreak and then seized the only break of the final set to seal the match.
Osaka broke in the opening game of the first set and held on to take it 6-4. The second set featured four breaks of serve before Rybakina won the tiebreak, and in the decider she struck in game seven, breaking to lead 4-3 before closing out the set.
The decisive moment was the single break in the third set, with Rybakina showing the sharper play when it mattered most. She recovered from an early deficit and converted her only break chance of the decider to advance.
