Michaela Stoiana beat Jamie Ortenzi 6-3, 6-2 at the WTA 125K in Barranquilla, controlling the match from the baseline behind a first serve that Ortenzi barely dented. Stoiana converted four break points to Ortenzi's one and held all eight of her service games; Ortenzi held only four of hers.
Stoiana broke immediately in game two of the opening set to lead 0-2, and although Ortenzi hit back in game five to level at 2-3, the response was instant: another break in game six for 2-4 settled the set. In the second, Stoiana broke in game three at 1-2 and again in game seven at 2-5, while Ortenzi saved only two of the four break points she faced there.
The serving gap told the story: Stoiana won 30 of 41 first-serve points (73%) across the match against 18 of 35 (51%) for Ortenzi, and saved five of the six break points she faced. Neither player hit an ace, and Stoiana's four double faults never cost her a hold.
