Alexander Zverev recovered from losing the first set to beat Cameron Norrie 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the Cincinnati tournament, taking control with his serve. He hit 16 aces and won 85% of points behind his first delivery.
Norrie broke in game two of the opener to lead 2-0 and closed the set out 6-3. Zverev responded by breaking in game six of the second set at 4-2, then in the decider he broke at 4-3 and again in game nine to seal the match. After the opening set, Norrie earned just one further break point, which Zverev saved.
The decisive gap came on serve: Zverev fired 16 aces to Norrie's three and converted two breaks, but he also saved two of the three break points he faced. Norrie saved 12 of 14 break points himself, yet it was Zverev's late aggression in the deciding set that proved decisive.
