Luca Van Assche rallied from a set down to beat Cameron Norrie 6-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 at the US Open. The Frenchman's return game was decisive: he converted six break points and saved two of the four he faced to take command after a tight opener.
Norrie edged the first set in a tie-break, but Van Assche stormed through the second and third, breaking repeatedly to leave no doubt. He then built an early lead in the fourth and, although Norrie hit back, a decisive break sealed the win.
The stats underline Van Assche's superiority: he won 42 receiving points to Norrie's 26 and claimed 44% of points on Norrie's first serve, while Norrie mustered just 24% on Van Assche's. Van Assche also held 12 of his 14 service games, keeping his own serve out of danger apart from the opener.
