Arthur Fils beat Cameron Norrie 6-2, 7-6 at the Montreal tournament, taking the second-set tiebreak after a tense, break-filled battle. The Frenchman's first serve was the anchor: he landed 71% and won 78% of those points, while Norrie could only manage 55% and 72%.
Fils made the early running in the opener, breaking in the first game and again for 2-1, 4-1 and 5-2 to close out 6-2. The second set turned chaotic – every game before the tiebreak went against the server, with breaks traded from 1-0 through to 6-6, before Fils edged the tiebreak.
The match ended with Fils winning 76 points to Norrie's 59, helped by taking 53% of points on Norrie's second serve. Both players finished with four aces, but it was Fils who came through the decisive tiebreak.
