The first set turned on an early break in game three, with Nikles moving ahead at 2-1, before he broke again in game nine to close it out at 6-3. He struck again immediately in the second set for 2-0, saved the only break point he faced all match, and sealed the win with a break in game eight at 6-2.
The standout number is on return: Nikles won 36% of first-serve return points to Cerny's 23%, and 56% of second-serve return points to 33%. Cerny actually served cleanly enough — no double faults and 100% second serves in play — but won just 7 of 16 second-serve points, and that was the gap.
