Connecticut United snatched a late 2-1 victory over New York Red Bulls II, thanks to a brace from Dylan Lacy. The forward struck inside two minutes and then netted the winner in stoppage time, after the visitors had levelled through Dennis Nelich.
Lacy opened the scoring in the second minute, converting Rickson van Hees’ assist. New York equalised in the 26th minute when Dennis Nelich finished from Christian Gallagher’s pass. The game looked set for a draw until Lacy struck again in the 90th minute, unassisted, to seal the points. The match also featured six yellow cards, including one for Gallagher.
Despite having only 41% possession, Connecticut were the more clinical side. They recorded eight shots on target to New York’s five and posted a higher expected goals total (2.56 to 2.14). Lacy’s double was the difference, as his team made the most of their limited chances.
