Rankenburg opened the scoring in the 8th minute. Caua Paixao equalised in the 46th with an assist from Dylan Lacy, but Myles Morgan restored the lead in the 55th, assisted by Aarin Prajapati. The contest also featured five bookings, including one for Dylan Lacy in first-half stoppage time.
New England had the better chances, racking up 19 shots to Connecticut's 12 and 1.24 xG to 1.20. Connecticut enjoyed 53% possession but could not make it count, leaving them with nothing to show for their greater share of the ball.
