Carolina Core FC went through after a 2-2 draw with New England Revolution II in MLS Next Pro. Marcos Zambrano's two goals turned the game in New England's favour, but Seth Hammond equalised in the 90th minute, and Carolina Core won the penalty shootout 4-2.
Bryce Swinehart opened the scoring on 71 minutes from Thomas Raimbault's assist. Marcos Zambrano levelled for New England Revolution II in the 83rd minute, then made it 1-2 on 87 from J Mussenden's assist. Seth Hammond's 90th-minute goal, assisted by Charles Orbaugh, made it 2-2 and took the tie to penalties.
Marcos Zambrano's brace was the standout scoring contribution. New England had 56% possession and more accurate passes, yet the box score gave Carolina Core three total shots and 0.22 expected goals to New England's 0.00; the shootout went Carolina Core's way 4-2.
