J. Estevez beat A. Nedic 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in Augsburg, fighting back from a set down with a steadier serving display. He dropped only the opener, then relied on a strong second-serve performance and sharp break-point play to turn the match around.
Nedic raced through the first set, breaking at 2-0 and again at 6-2. Nedic again struck first in the second set, breaking at 2-0, but Estevez replied with breaks at 4-3 and 4-5 to level the match. Estevez then broke in the opening game of the decider and again at 1-4, and after Nedic briefly got back on serve at 3-5, Estevez sealed the win with one last break at 3-6.
The key number was Estevez's resilience behind his serve: he saved 10 of 13 break points (76%) while Nedic saved only 4 of 8 (50%). Estevez also won 58 service points to 49 and finished ahead on total points, 95-92.
