MVV Maastricht won 2-1 away at Jong AZ Alkmaar in the Eerste Divisie, taking control with a goal either side of half-time and then surviving a late home reply. The visitors were efficient in front of goal despite having much less of the ball.
Olivier Dumont opened the scoring in the 36th minute from Milan Hofland’s assist. Noa el Hamdaoui doubled the lead in the 74th, with Dumont turning provider. Julian Oerip pulled one back for Jong AZ in the 84th from Andrea Natali’s pass, but MVV held on.
Jong AZ dominated possession with 58% and had eight shots to MVV’s four, yet MVV matched them with three shots on target and scored twice. Olivier Dumont was at the heart of the win with a goal and an assist, while the home side created no big chances against the visitors’ one.
