Lorenzo Musetti beat Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 6-2 in Cincinnati, taking control from the very first game. The Italian broke four times, converting four of five break points, and saved two of the three break points he faced, while Altmaier managed only one break.
Musetti broke immediately in both sets, going 1-0 up each time. Altmaier levelled the opener at 3-3, but Musetti answered with another break in the next game and served out the set. In the second set, Altmaier held twice but could not stop Musetti from going 4-1 up with a second break, and the Italian closed out the match on his own serve.
The decisive difference was Musetti's serving: he put 65% of first serves in play and won 81% of those points, compared with Altmaier's 42% and 75%. Altmaier hit two aces, yet Musetti won 33 service points to 23 and finished with 58 total points to 39.
