Alex Molčan fought back from a set down to beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in Umag. The Slovak dominated after a slow start, dropping just three games across the final two sets as he won 9 of his 10 service games and converted three of eight break points.
Davidovich Fokina struck first, breaking for 2-4 and taking the opener. But Molčan stormed through the second set, breaking in game 2 (2-0) and again in game 4 (4-0) to level. He then broke in the opening game of the decider (1-0) and again at 4-1 to seal the win, with Davidovich Fokina saving five of eight break points but unable to hold his own serve enough.
Molčan’s serving proved decisive: he won 78% of first-serve points and only faced one break point all match, which he saved. The Slovak also won 32% of first-serve return points, a key edge over Davidovich Fokina's 21%, and claimed 27 of 43 receiving points overall.
