Vasco da Gama and Mirassol shared the spoils at São Januário after a 1-1 draw that saw the visitors take an early lead and the hosts dominate large spells. Mirassol struck just after the half-hour mark through Igor Formiga, but Vasco’s mounting pressure eventually paid off when Andrés Gómez levelled with ten minutes left.
Igor Formiga opened the scoring in the 30th minute, turning in Reinaldo’s assist to put Mirassol 1-0 up against the run of early play. Vasco responded with wave after wave of attack but found Mirassol goalkeeper in fine form until Andrés Gómez equalised in the 80th minute. Two yellow cards were shown late on, to Walter on 66 minutes and Nuno Moreira on 83.
The statistics paint a clear picture of Vasco’s dominance: 58% possession, 20 total shots to Mirassol’s 10, and an expected goals tally of 1.83 against 0.82. Yet they missed all three of their big chances, while Mirassol scored from their only one. Vasco will rue their wastefulness as they drop two points at home.
