Portland Timbers won a wild 5-4 game against Minnesota United in MLS, with Vincent Janssen scoring three times. The hosts raced into a three-goal lead inside 26 minutes, then had to hold on as Minnesota fought back twice before Portland eventually sealed the points.
Janssen opened the scoring at 11, Drake Callender doubled the lead at 20, and Janssen made it 3-0 at 26. Minnesota responded through Marcus Caldeira at 32 and Anthony Markanich at 37, before Caldeira levelled at 50. Janssen restored Portland's lead at 55, Kristoffer Velde added a fifth at 71, and Tomás Chancalay pulled one back at 90.
Portland were out-shot 17 to 11 and had fewer shots on target, but they were far more clinical, scoring with all five of their efforts on target. Janssen was central to it all with three goals and an assist, while Minnesota's eight shots on target yielded only four goals.
