Mena F. came from behind to beat Sanchez Martinez B. 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in Augsburg, taking the deciding set in a tie-break. The only break of the second set came in game six, when Mena converted, and the decider stayed on serve throughout.
Sanchez Martinez broke in game one and saved both break points he faced to close out the opening set 6-4. Mena levelled by winning the second set 6-4 behind that single break, before both players saved two break points apiece in the final set and Mena edged the tie-break.
Mena won 38 receiver points to Sanchez Martinez's 30 and claimed 60% of second-serve points. He also served seven aces to four, enough to tip a tight match his way despite Sanchez Martinez's higher first-serve percentage of 72% to 65%.
