Mena F. defeated Heide G. 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in the Porto men's singles, coming through after Heide had levelled the match. The opener proved pivotal, with Mena taking it in a tiebreak.
Heide broke at 4-2 in the first set before Mena hit back at 5-4 and won the breaker. Heide then levelled by 6-3, breaking in game three and again in game nine, but Mena seized the decider with breaks in the seventh and ninth games to finish 6-3.
Heide outpointed Mena 90-79 and won every one of her 11 service games, yet Mena saved 6 of 9 break points to hold off the pressure and grab the crucial breaks when it mattered most.
