Duckworth came from a set down to beat Marozsan 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 at Winston Salem. He turned the match around with aggressive returning, breaking six times to Marozsan's three and saving five of eight break points.
Marozsan took the opener after breaking for 2-1, but Duckworth broke back at 3-3 before Marozsan won the tiebreak. In the second set Duckworth broke Marozsan in games 1, 3 and 7 to level at 6-2. He then broke in game one of the decider, was pegged back in game two, and struck the decisive break in game nine before serving out the match.
Duckworth's first serve proved the key: he won 77% of points behind it and hit eight aces, while Marozsan managed 58% and just one ace. Marozsan put in a slightly higher percentage of first serves (50% to 46%), but Duckworth won 41% of return points on his opponent's first serve, with Marozsan at 22%.
