Arnaldi beat Marozsan 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in Montreal, settling the match with the only break of the final set. Marozsan had the better overall numbers, but the decisive moment came in game 7 of the decider, when Arnaldi went 4-3 up and then closed out the win.
The opening set featured three breaks: Arnaldi moved 2-1 ahead, Marozsan levelled at 2-2, and Arnaldi broke again in game 11 to take it 7-5. Marozsan dominated the second set, breaking in game 2 and again in game 8 for 6-2. The decider stayed on serve until Arnaldi's break in game 7 gave him 4-3, and he held on to take it 6-4.
Marozsan won more points across the match, 80-65, and served four aces to Arnaldi's three, yet still lost. The difference was the timing of Arnaldi's breaks: two in the opener and one in the decider, enough to outweigh Marozsan's three breaks from the first two sets.
