Mansfield Town beat Luton Town 5-2 in League One after racing into a commanding lead. Nathan Moriah-Welsh set them on their way with a first-half double, and Jon Russell scored twice early in the second period to put the game beyond the visitors.
Moriah-Welsh opened the scoring in the 17th minute and doubled the lead in the 28th. Louis Reed made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time, and Russell struck in the 47th and 56th minutes to make it 5-0. Nahki Wells pulled a goal back for Luton in the 78th minute, but the home side had already done the damage.
The hosts were far more clinical: Mansfield had 21 shots to Luton's 11 and six on target to four, despite the visitors seeing more of the ball with 58% possession. Expected goals were close at 1.33 to 1.30, but the finishing was one-sided, with Moriah-Welsh and Russell both bagging doubles.
