The Calgary Hitmen took this one 7-4 in Lethbridge, and they did it with a clean sweep of the third period. Tied 4-4 after forty minutes, Calgary scored three unanswered in the final frame to settle it in regulation.
It was even-money hockey for two periods: 2-2 after the first, 2-2 again in the second to leave it 4-4 heading to the third. The turning point was simply the opening stretch of the final period, where the Hurricanes stopped scoring and the Hitmen didn't.
The number that matters is the third-period split: 3-0 Calgary. Lethbridge matched the visitors goal for goal through two, then went scoreless over the last twenty, and an even game became a three-goal margin.
