Jodar defeated Lehecka 6-3, 6-3 in Montreal, sealing the straight-sets win with three breaks of Lehecka’s serve. The decisive edge came behind Jodar’s delivery: he won 24 of 28 points on his first serve and saved two of three break points he faced.
Jodar grabbed the only break of the opening set in the eighth game to lead 5-3 and took it 6-3. He then broke in the first game of the second set and again in the seventh game at 2-5. Lehecka broke back in the eighth game at 3-5, but Jodar broke straight back in the ninth game at 3-6 to seal the match.
The match was decided by Jodar’s return consistency as much as his serving: Lehecka won only four of 28 points against Jodar’s first serve (14%). Jodar also outscored Lehecka 59-44 in total points, despite Lehecka hitting one more ace.
