Cienciano powered into the next round with a commanding 4-0 victory over Lanús in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana playoff round. Carlos Garcés and Alejandro Hohberg each scored twice, the pair combining for all four goals as the Peruvian side dominated from the early stages.
Garcés opened the scoring in the 7th minute, curling home a Cristian Souza cross. Hohberg doubled the lead five minutes before halftime after a clever lay-off from Garcés, and Garcés struck again deep into first-half stoppage time from another Souza assist to make it 3-0. Hohberg completed the scoring in the 90th minute, again set up by Garcés.
Cienciano controlled the contest throughout, with 54% possession and 14 total shots to Lanús' eight. They created three big chances and converted all of them, posting an expected goals total of 1.29 against Lanús' 0.16. Lanús goalkeeper made four saves but could not keep out the hosts' clinical finishing.
