In the opener, Shelbayh broke at 2-1 and Lajović pulled back at 3-3 before Lajović took the tiebreak. Shelbayh then stormed through the second set, breaking at 2-2, 4-2 and 6-2 to level the match. The turning point of the decider arrived at 2-3, with Lajović breaking to lead 3-2 and holding the rest of the way.
Despite winning more total points (92-89) and more service games (12-10), Shelbayh could not convert his chances against a resolute Lajović, who saved six of ten break points. Lajović also led the ace count 4-2.
