In the opener, Lajal broke in the first game (0-1), Rice levelled at 1-1, but Lajal regained control with a break in the seventh game (3-4) and closed the set with another break at 3-6. He followed the same script in the second set, breaking at 2-4 and then sealing the match with a break at 2-6.
The key stat was Lajal's first-serve supremacy: 21 of 23 first-serve points won (91%) and 56% of first-serve returns against Rice's serve, while Rice managed 44% and 8% respectively. Lajal also hit five aces to Rice's none.
