Gentzsch beat Kym 6-4, 7-6 in straight sets at the ATP Challenger in Hagen. The match was decided by a stronger return game: Gentzsch converted three of five break points and saved three of five against him.
Gentzsch broke early in the opener, was pegged back at 1-1, and later led 5-3 before closing out 6-4. Kym went 2-0 up in the second set, but Gentzsch hit back immediately and the set went to a tiebreak after 6-6. Gentzsch took the tiebreak 7-6 to seal the win.
The standout number was on return: Gentzsch won 33 return points to Kym's 20 and took 54% of second-serve returns. Kym won more service points overall, 44 to 42, but Gentzsch's edge on break points made the difference.
