Gent beat KV Mechelen 2-0 in the First Division A, taking the points with a controlled home performance. Two goals before half-time set up the win, and the visitors never looked like overturning the deficit.
Tiago Araújo opened the scoring on 37 minutes, and Josué Vergara doubled the lead on 45 minutes, finishing from Momodou Sonko's pass. The second half produced no more goals, and Gent saw the game out.
The box score showed Gent's superiority: 15 shots to five, eight on target to two, and an expected-goals advantage of 1.16 to 0.34, with 53% of possession. Mechelen's goalkeeper made six saves, while Gent's keeper needed to make only two. The only booking was a late yellow card for Massimo Decoene of KV Mechelen.
