Neftekhimik controlled the opening frame behind Nikita Khoruzhev's goal at 6' and Artur Tyanulin's marker at 17'. Matvei Nadvorny made it 3-0 early in the second, but Yegor Solovyov answered immediately and Turner Ottenbreit cut the lead to 3-2 before the intermission. Stepan Khripunov tied it at 48', Andrei Belozyorov put Neftekhimik back ahead at 50', and Nic Petan forced overtime at 53'.
The story was Kunlun's response: after falling behind 3-0, the visitors scored five of the final six goals in regulation and overtime. Neftekhimik's early edge was not enough to withstand Kunlun's sustained push.
