Marek Krumich beat Karol Knitter 6-2, 6-2 in Szczecin, controlling the match from the return end. He converted five break points to Knitter's one and won 30 service points to his opponent's 13.
Krumich broke in the opening game of the first set at 0-1, was broken straight back at 1-1, then took over with breaks at 1-2 and 1-4 to close the set out. The second set followed the same script: an immediate break at 0-1 and another at 0-3 left Knitter chasing, and he saved none of the two break points he faced there.
The defining number was serve retention: Krumich won six of his six service games, Knitter just two of seven. Knitter had the only aces of the match, two, and fewer double faults (one to four), but he won only 39% of his first-serve points against Krumich's 70%.
