Kostyuk M. beat Hunter S. 6-4, 6-1 at the US Open, taking the match in straight sets. She made the early running in both sets and relied on a sharp serving display, saving three of four break points and finishing with seven aces to Hunter's none.
In the opener Kostyuk broke straight away for 1-0, added a second break at 5-2 and, after Hunter replied at 5-3, closed out the set 6-4. The second set followed a similar pattern: Kostyuk went up 1-0, Hunter levelled at 1-1, but Kostyuk then pulled clear with breaks at 3-1 and 5-1 to seal it 6-1.
The standout number was Kostyuk's seven aces against zero from Hunter. That edge on her first delivery, where she won 67% of points, underpinned the straight-sets win.
