Kano Pillars took the points with a 3-2 win over Niger Tornadoes in the Professional League, having raced into a three-goal lead by the 54th minute. They then survived a late scare as Niger Tornadoes scored twice in the closing stages.
Friday Ubong put Kano Pillars ahead in the 40th minute, and Fabian Nworie Maduabuchi doubled the lead right on half-time. Maduabuchi added his second in the 54th minute to make it 3-0, before Godfrey Joseph pulled one back for Niger Tornadoes in the 73rd minute and scored again in the 90th to set up a tense finish.
Fabian Nworie Maduabuchi's brace was the difference, his goals either side of the break giving Kano Pillars control after Friday Ubong's opener. Godfrey Joseph's two late goals for Niger Tornadoes made the final scoreline look closer, but Kano Pillars held on for the win.
