Leolia Jeanjean edged Julia Pareja 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 at the WTA 125K in Barranquilla, winning a match in which she was outscored on total points 95-103. The difference came in the moments that counted: she took the only tiebreak of the match and landed the single break of the decider.
The opening set produced no breaks at all - Jeanjean saved all four break points she faced, Pareja all three - before the Frenchwoman came through the tiebreak. Pareja hit back in the second, breaking in game six at 2-4 and reeling off three games in a row, but in the third Jeanjean broke in game eight at 5-3 to serve out the win.
The serving numbers stayed remarkably tight: 67 service points won for Jeanjean against 65 for Pareja, with five double faults apiece. Jeanjean's 4-1 edge in aces and her 6/7 record saving break points were the slim margins that carried her through.
