Houston Dynamo 2 edged Austin FC II 6-5 in an extraordinary MLS Next Pro encounter. The home side struck first through Arthur Sousa in the 25th minute, but Austin equalised late through Christian Ayala in the 86th, forcing extra time.
The extra period was a frenzy of goals. Evan Watt put Austin ahead, only for Gustavo Dohmann to level. Jorge Alastuey restored Austin's lead, Vinicius Silva equalised, Djakaria Barro made it 3-4, Eiji Hata pulled Houston level again, and Samir Mohammad scored the decisive goal to make it 5-4, with the final score reading 6-5.
Despite the win, Houston were outplayed. Austin dominated possession (54%), had more shots (20-11) and a far higher expected goals (2.72 vs 0.79). Houston, however, were ruthlessly efficient, scoring five goals from just three shots on target in normal and extra time.
