Chepelev A. defeated Gschwendtner J. 6-2, 6-3 in the Genoa Men Singles, breaking four times and saving one of three break points faced. A 75% first-serve success rate laid the foundation for a straight-sets win built on return pressure.
Chepelev opened with a break in game one and added another at 4-1 to take the first set. In the second set Gschwendtner twice went up a break, at 2-0 and 3-1, but Chepelev hit back immediately each time before breaking again at 4-3 and then sealing the match at 6-3.
The decisive edge came off Chepelev's first serve: he won 22 of 36 points behind it and earned two aces. Gschwendtner, by contrast, converted only two of his six break-point chances and was outscored 54 points to 45.
