Giustino beat Dodig 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 at the ATP Challenger Hagen, coming from a set down to win the deciding tiebreak. He saved nine of the thirteen break points he faced.
Dodig took the opener 6-4, with Giustino’s break in game 4 answered immediately in game 5 before Dodig’s decisive break in game 9. Giustino levelled the match by breaking in games 8 and 12 of the second set, having trailed after Dodig’s break in game 3. In the third set, Dodig broke for a 4-3 lead, but Giustino broke straight back in game 8 and then took the tiebreak.
Dodig hit ten aces and won more return points, 37 to 29, yet Giustino converted as many breaks. The difference was Giustino’s 85% saving rate in the final set, where he saved six of seven break points.
