Coco Gauff came from a set down to defeat Karolina Muchova 2-6, 6-1, 7-6, winning the decisive tiebreak after a remarkable third set. The American dominated the middle set to level, then survived a third set that saw an unprecedented 12 consecutive breaks of serve before the tiebreak.
Muchova seized the opening set with three breaks, breaking Gauff in the first, fourth and sixth games to close 6-2. Gauff turned the match on its head in the second set, breaking Muchova three times — at 0-1, 1-2 and 1-4 — to take it 6-1. The final set was a battle of returns: every service game went against the server, with Muchova and Gauff trading breaks from 1-0 through 6-6 before the tiebreak.
The third set alone featured 12 breaks of serve, an extraordinary display of returning. Overall, Gauff saved 4 of 6 break points (66%) while Muchova saved 11 of 13 (84%), but the American's resilience in the tiebreak proved decisive.
