Dalma Galfi came from a set down to beat Nuria Brancaccio 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 at the WTA 125K event in Montreux. The Hungarian was the steadier player on the big points, saving 7 of 15 break points across the match to Brancaccio's 4 of 14, and winning 93 points to 85.
Brancaccio took a chaotic opening set in which serve counted for little: five breaks in all, including hers at 1-0, 4-3 and the decisive one at 5-4. Galfi answered with a one-sided second, breaking at 0-2 and 0-4 and reeling off five games in a row, and in the decider she broke back at 3-2 and again at 4-5, only for Brancaccio to level at 5-5 and force the tiebreak that Galfi closed out.
The second set was the platform: Galfi landed 87 percent of her first serves there, won 11 of 16 first-serve return points and put together a run of 10 straight points. Brancaccio held her serve better on paper over the match, 79 percent first serves and the only ace, but converted just 8 breaks to Galfi's 10.
