The opening goal came shortly after the interval, with Sletsjoe finding the net to give GAIS the lead. Halmstads struggled to create clear chances for most of the match, but Ascone's 90th-minute equaliser – his second involvement of the game after a yellow card moments earlier – earned them a share of the spoils.
GAIS controlled the statistics, with 62% possession, 20 total shots (eight on target) and 10 corners, but they missed three big chances. Halmstads, by contrast, had only 10 shots and four on target, yet converted their big chance when it mattered most.
