Ferrari G. beat Ferrari F. 7-6, 7-6 in Genoa, winning both sets in tie-breaks. He was the stronger player when his serve was under threat, saving eight of the 11 break points he faced.
Ferrari F. broke to lead 2-0 in the opener, but Ferrari G. hit back with two breaks and closed out the first tie-break despite Ferrari F.'s late fightback to 5-5. Ferrari F. again moved ahead with a break to lead 3-2 in the second set; Ferrari G. levelled immediately at 3-3 and then took the deciding tie-break.
Ferrari F.'s numbers at the other end made the loss hard to take: he won more return points, 36-26, and converted three breaks of serve, the same as Ferrari G. Yet Ferrari G. had the decisive edge when it mattered, finishing with six aces to Ferrari F.'s two.
