Alex Michelsen defeated Jacob Fearnley 7-6, 6-3 in the first round of the ATP Challenger in Bloomfield Hills, recovering from a 0-4 deficit in the opening set before dominating the tiebreak and closing out in straight sets.
The first set saw Fearnley storm to a 4-0 lead with breaks in games 2 and 4, but Michelsen broke back in game 5 and again in game 9 to level at 5-5. He then won the tiebreak, claiming a third break at 7-6. In the second set, Michelsen broke in game 2 for 2-0, Fearnley broke back in game 7 to make it 4-3, only for Michelsen to break again in game 8 and serve out the match.
Michelsen fired nine aces to Fearnley's two, won 76% of first-serve points and 48% on second serve, and saved 60% of break points faced, while Fearnley converted only 25% of his break opportunities.
