Sarmiento came away with a 0-2 win at Estudiantes de Río Cuarto in the Superliga, Gonzalo Maffini scoring after six minutes and Junior Marabel adding a second in the 71st. The visitors never fell behind and absorbed plenty of pressure along the way.
Maffini’s early goal gave Sarmiento the lead and he was booked in the 14th minute as the contest tightened. Fernando Rodríguez was shown a yellow card in the 62nd, and Marabel’s strike nine minutes later settled the result.
The decisive difference was Sarmiento’s finishing: with only 35% possession and 179 accurate passes to Estudiantes’ 387, they still matched their hosts with four shots on target and posted an expected-goals figure of 1.36 to 0.89. Estudiantes had 18 shots and 14 corners, yet Sarmiento’s goalkeeper made four saves to keep them at bay.
