Estudiantes de La Plata thrashed Gimnasia y Esgrima 4-0 in the Superliga, with the result shaped by an early sending-off. Gimnasia were reduced to ten men when Alexis Steimbach was shown a red card in the 35th minute, and Estudiantes made the extra man count.
Eros Mancuso put the hosts ahead in the 43rd minute from Joaquín Tobio Burgos's assist. Tiago Palacios doubled the lead on 60 after Adolfo Gaich's pass, Tobio Burgos added a third from Joaquín Correa's assist on 70, and Alexis Castro completed the scoring in the 84th minute with Eric Meza providing the assist. Germán Conti's second yellow card in the 53rd minute made Gimnasia's task even harder.
The statistics underlined Estudiantes' control: 76% possession, 20 shots to Gimnasia's eight, and an expected-goals tally of 2.33 to 0.54. Joaquín Tobio Burgos stood out, setting up the opener and scoring the third himself.
