Emelec secured a 2-0 victory away at Orense SC in Serie A, taking full advantage of a depleted home side. Orense had two players sent off in the first half, leaving them to play over an hour with nine men.
Juan Ruiz Gómez opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing a move set up by Francisco Pizzini. Sergio Quintero added a second deep into stoppage time, assisted by Luis Fragozo, to seal the win.
Despite enjoying 59% possession and completing 373 accurate passes to Emelec's 255, Orense failed to create clear chances, registering just one shot on target. Emelec, with only 41% possession, had five shots on target and created three big chances, scoring two.
