Emelec left it late as Aníbal Leguizamón scored in the 90th minute to give them a 2-1 win over Club Leones Del Norte in Serie A. Juan Ruiz Gómez's early strike was cancelled out by Juan Anangonó, but Leguizamón's finish secured the points.
Ruiz Gómez put Emelec ahead after three minutes, converting Luis Fragozo's assist. Club Leones Del Norte responded in the 25th minute through Juan Anangonó, who finished from Emiliano Griffa's pass. The visitors then looked set to take a point until Leguizamón turned in Gonzalo Nápoli's delivery in the 90th minute.
The narrow win reflected a close contest. Leones had the better of possession with 51%, but Emelec created the game's only big chance and took it, while both sides managed four shots on target. Emelec's goalkeeper was the busier of the two, making four saves to two.
