Damir Džumhur rallied from a set down to defeat Alex Molčan 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in Umag, capitalizing on a decisive third-set surge. Despite saving only 50% of break points overall, the Bosnian won 11 of his 14 service games and converted three breaks, while Molčan managed three breaks of his own but could not sustain his first-set dominance.
Džumhur struggled early as Molčan broke in the opening game and again at 3-6 to take the first set. The second set hinged on a single break in the first game, which Džumhur held to level the match. In the decider, Džumhur stormed ahead with breaks in the third and fifth games for a 4-1 lead, and although Molčan broke back in the sixth, Džumhur sealed the win with a final break at 6-3.
Džumhur’s second serve proved crucial in the final set, where he won 9 of 14 points (64%) compared to Molčan’s 1 of 4 (25%). He also finished with five aces to Molčan’s three and won 40% of his return points overall, underlining his ability to turn the match around after a slow start.
