Galway United won 2-1 at Dundalk, taking the points with an early goal and another shortly after half-time. The home side dominated the ball and created far more, but Galway were clinical when it mattered.
Edward McCarthy put Galway ahead in the ninth minute, assisted by Stephen Walsh. Kristopher Twardek doubled the lead on 55 minutes, with Anthony O'Connor the provider, before Trevor Clarke pulled one back for Dundalk in the 85th minute.
The box score shows how one-sided the match really was: Dundalk had 75% possession, 27 shots to Galway's five, and an expected goals total of 2.22 against 0.79. But Dundalk missed their four big chances while Galway converted one of theirs, and Galway's goalkeeper made three saves to protect the win.
