Droguet T. beat Faria J. 7-6, 6-2 in Montreal, recovering from an early double break in the opening set and then taking control in the second. Sharper returning and a steadier display at the key moments carried Droguet through.
Faria broke immediately for 0-1 and again for 0-3 before Droguet hit back at 1-3. Droguet then broke at 5-5 and took the first set in a tiebreak. In the second set, Droguet broke at 2-1 and 5-2, closing out 6-2.
Droguet finished with 40 receiver points won to Faria's 24, saved four of six break points and served six aces. Faria's eight double faults and 45% first-serve percentage hurt, while Droguet won 82 total points to 69.
