Matsuoka H. beat Dougaz A. 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 at the Astana Men Singles after dropping the opening set 6-0. The decisive factor was the decider: Matsuoka took the third-set tie-break to complete the comeback.
Dougaz broke in games 1, 3 and 5 to take the opener 6-0. Matsuoka answered by breaking for 2-0, 4-0 and 5-1 in the second set, with Dougaz's only reply at 1-4, and then won a decider in which all twelve regular games went against serve before taking the tie-break.
Matsuoka won more total points, 86 to 80, and had the better numbers on first-serve points won (77% to 67%) despite being out-aced 4-1. That edge, rather than any single big run — the longest streak was Dougaz's six games in the opener — carried him through the final tie-break.
